i've built up quite a hoard of useful or fun websites over the years and here's where i'm gonna dump a bunch of them so other people can use them too; will probably be updated frequently!!! everything is free unless stated otherwise
CODING/WEBMASTERING
Godot - free open source game engine with a silly robot as a logo!!!!!!!!!!!! will be my engine of choice when i finally get off my butt and start learning it
sadgrl.online - basically anything you could want to get started making a website

ART
Animal Photo Art Reference Search - ACTUAL GODSEND I LOVE THIS WEBSITE. rotate a 3d skull and bring up references for specific animals and angles!!!!! incredibly useful if you struggle with angles like me. also good for just looking at pictures of critters
Aseprite - objectively the best pixel art program; comfy interface, tons of community made addons (especially on itch), and tons of tools in the base program!!! normally 20 dollars BUT if you want to compile it yourself then it's free!!! it's also open source which is always delightful
Blockbench - low-poly 3d modeling program; perfect for minecraft modding; can be used in the browser but its nicer to have it downloaded
Color Blender - smoothly blends colors so you don't have to suffer color picking gradients
Coolors - color palette generator, lots of features are paywalled but you can still get plenty of use out of the free version
Firealpaca - my art program of choice!!!!! you have to download it so its not REALLY a website but its good so im putting it here anyway
Height Comparison - quickly compare the heights of characters and stuff
Heroforge - intended to make custom ttrpg miniatures but can also be used for all aspects of character design, or even just making preexisting characters!!! there is a paid version but you won't be missing much without it. literally infinite possibilities
OpenShot - super simple open source video editor, good for if you're not trying to do anything too fancy. you do need to download it
Pixel Circle/Oval Generator - exactly what it says on the tin (intended for minecraft but useful for anything involving pixels)
Shake Art Deluxe - make silly little shaky drawings!!! mostly for fun but if you figure out a practical use please tell me im so curious
Unsplash - pretty nice stock image site; great for backgrounds, not so great for moodboards
WRITING
A To Z Flowers - information on a bunch of different flowers; i mostly just use it for researching symbolism but it has a whole bunch of interesting stuff
